A human hair is about 100 um (microns) across. The smallest transistor we are currently manufacturing is 0.14 um across. Imagine placing the probes from a Digital Multimeter on two test pads located on the wafer below in order to take 2500 different measurements. In my 16 years at AT&T Bell Labs, Lucent Technologies, Agere Systems, and Texas instruments. I have "Probed" over 20 Million wafers and published the results to a world wide audience. These chips are now powering your mp3 players, cameras, cell phones, hard drives, Macs, UNIX workstations, 10/100 NIC, Routers, air bags, anti-lock brakes and even gaming consoles...
